(8,054 posts)the next 10 years. NOBODY is going to want trump to hold office again....except the weirdos. And they're not in the majority.
I say trump is an albatross, and they brought him to the dance, so they have to go home with him.

(19,962 posts)and barred from running again is only to the benefit of the GOP. Him hanging around like a bad smell, would screw with Republican candidates in 2024.

(115,748 posts)Of course it isn't unconstitutional and they know it, but they have to do their little dance for the MAGAts back home. What I am hoping for is that at least 20 of them or so continue their charade by denouncing the trial as a sham and refusing to participate in it at all. Since conviction requires the votes of two-thirds of the members present, this would guarantee that Trump is convicted. And this would be a good thing for Senators like Cruz and Hawley who want to run for president in 2024 because it would get Trump out of the way. It would also be a good thing for Senators who are up for re-election in 2022 because they can try to wash off the Trump stank without alienating the MAGAts in their states.

(46,130 posts)Wait until the evidence is presented with analysis. Republicans can be shamed into changing their votes, at least 17 of them. Nixon wouldn't have resigned if he believed he had enough republican votes to ride it out.
