Expect conviction for Trump

Do not allow anyone to change that expectation.

Resist the temptation to lower the standard for impeachment. Especially here on DU. We expect conviction. We demand conviction. Nothing less is acceptable.

Fuck Trump. He will be convicted.

Or they they can salvage what is left of their party by voting to convict.

The democratic party needs to BRING IT ON.

Make the cowards bleed (figuratively) SLOWLY, PUBLICLY. Humiliate them; get them on record for things history will never let them forget.

Leave them twisting in the wind. May they never live this shit down.

Make resignation or conviction their ONLY dignified response.

Nothing less is acceptable.

We demand conviction.

convince with a few arguments.

Yours is the kind that wants to talk fearful cultists into 1. ridding themselves of their parasitic mob boss, that 2. encourages them to use law enforcement handle those who threaten them thereafter. They will become adults, and 3. be all the freer for it.

I want a conviction. I think it's possible, because I think it's possible for the fearful to change. And I expect every damn minimal call effort from the non-72 million Americans to convince them to do it. I will be calling the 10 most likely to vote nation over their jobs. Get 10, and 7 more might join.

We can start with these ten:

UT Mitt Romney
ME Susan Collins
AK Lisa Murkowski
NE Ben Sasse
PA Patrick Toomey

Four purple states -- one Democrat and one Republican

OH Rob Portman R, Sherrod Brown D

MN Steve Daines R, John Tester D

WI Ron Johnson R, Tammy Baldwin D

WV Shelley Moore Capito R, Joe Manchin D

NC Richard Burr R

Wed Jan 27, 2021, 11:08 PM
Jan 2021

These are just educated guesses for the most part

Richard M. Burr N.C.
“The President bears responsibility for today’s events by promoting the unfounded conspiracy theories that have led to this point.”

Susan Collins Maine
“If you announce ahead of time how you’re going to vote, I don’t see how you can render impartial justice before you’ve heard the evidence.”

Mitch McConnell Ky.
“I have not made a final decision on how I will vote and I intend to listen to the legal arguments when they are presented to the Senate.”

Shelley Moore Capito W.Va.
“I did support the president, and I did support the policies and I think the policies were good for West Virginia. But this is inexcusable.”

Lisa Murkowski Alaska
“I will listen carefully and consider the arguments of both sides, and will then announce how I will vote.”

Rob Portman Ohio
“If the Senate proceeds with an impeachment trial, I will do my duty as a juror and listen to the cases presented by both sides.”

Mitt Romney Utah
“During the course of an impeachment trial, Senator Romney will again be bound by his oath to ‘do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws: So help me God.’ He will consider all of the facts and evidence presented,” a spokesperson said.

Ben Sasse Neb.
“As a juror, I’m not announcing anything now and I’m going to be limited on what I say in advance.”

Thom Tillis N.C.
“I’m prepared to go back up to Washington and listen to the arguments.”

Patrick J. Toomey PA.
“Should the Senate conduct a trial, I will again fulfil my responsibility to consider arguments from both the House managers and President Trump’s lawyers.”

then the wild cards, we need 7 of these IF the 10 above vote to convict

Marco Rubio Florida (IF he is running for POTUS, but he is a worm)

Tom Cotton Ark. (IF he is running for POTUS, but he is a dangerous thug, albeit extremely intelligent)

Tim Scott S.C. (surely he must at some point tire of supporting white nationalism, but maybe not, grrr)

John Thune S.D.

Deb Fischer Neb.

John Kennedy La. (listed because he can do bizarre things, and is actually one of the most intelligent Senators, he totally plays a fake dumb slack-jaw hick persona to gaslight the rubes in the bayou)

Chuck Grassley IA
“That’s a major thing you’ve got to think about, should Congress, under the Constitution, even do it? We shall see.”

Michael D. Crapo Idaho
A spokesperson said that Mr. Crapo is undecided.

Richard C. Shelby Ala.
“I believe we need to wait and hear the evidence. If there is a trial, which would be my third as a sitting Senator, I would sit as a juror. And as a juror, I would carefully consider the evidence presented.”

Dan Sullivan Alaska
“When a trial is conducted, I will be a juror, and I will thoroughly examine the arguments and evidence presented, including any defence mounted by the President’s legal team.”

John Cornyn Texas
“If they decide to proceed with the impeachment trial, I will certainly listen to the case presented.”

James M. Inhofe Okla.
“Accordingly, I will withhold further comments given my role as a prospective juror.”

James Lankford Okla.
“We’re going to go through the facts and the issues on this.”

to show that Americans are watching, do listen to them, and that if they vote to convict, their own openness, objectivity, integrity proves that the Senate remains a deliberative body.

I would add two upsides and three downsides in the call.

To wipe Trump from the future of the party
1. allows non-violent Americans to trust that their party is a real party, not a cult;
2. allows the party to grow back those who've unregistered by the tens of thousands, and gain more of the 32 mil unregistered adults in the US

To keep trump is to
1. to grow an already violent cult and
2. hold to the Russian disinformation crowd that feeds them from afar, and
3. above all, create an unsafe government, country and world.

Democracy is this kind of call effort. DU might well be up for this.

I'm going to start calling them.

I don't see the sense in expecting what won't happen. In fact, I want them not to convict, I want Trump to be the Republican party.

This fight must be had now. Let the Republican party continue to latch onto Trump. Convicting him means the Repubs can trick swing state voters in 2024 that they have changed and we end up in worse shape. The base will come around to whoever runs as a Repub, the swing staters may fall in line and we lose GA, AZ, MI, WI, PA. The second the new more 'moderate' Repub actually gets elected....boom, they will revert to being 100% Trump again.

The best way forward is for Trump to get off, get his confidence back, and come back as the face of the Republican party. That will insure they never get the Presidency in 2024.
