in a towerFirst Lady Dr Jill Biden is no stranger to the White House.
As the longtime public school educator and former second lady walked down Pennsylvania avenue during her husbands inauguration ceremony earlier this month, she did so with a full set of staffers prepared to take over the East Wing as well as some lofty ideas to go with her new role.
Dr Biden tapped former US Ambassador to Uruguay Julissa Reynoso Pantaleon to serve as her chief of staff before Inauguration Day could even arrive. The political strategist and prominent attorney who previously worked under former President Barack Obama would help the new first lady roll out her agenda, which included the relaunch of Joining Forces, an initiative she co-founded with former First Lady Michelle Obama providing support for military families.
Whereas the national gaze is typically cast on the new president during their first days in office, the first ladys presence could be felt in a recently unfamiliar way. Just four years ago, former First Lady Melania Trump had not yet moved to the White House during the first week in her new role.

(11,740 posts)While I am sure that she has her own thoughts and opinions, I mean, we saw her fret about how she was perceived and her dislike of having to deal with the Christmas decorations at the White House. The reality is that she was neither suited, nor qualified for ANY type of leadership OR public service role. For that matter, neither was Donald Trump.
Dr. Jill Biden, like the last Democratic First Lady Michelle Obama, and the one prior to that, Hillary Clinton, is a powerhouse APART from her husband. She has an agenda for how she intends to contribute to the public good because THAT is how Democrats roll. That Dr. Biden has been around the White House before is a bonus, but I doubt that she would have had ANY problems feeling her way around if she had not had experience as the Second Lady. The difference is that Dr. Biden expects to be a part of the public service that is one of the roles of the First Lady.
Prior to Trump's election, both he and Melania basically appeared to exist to serve their own needs. I don't see any history of public service in that family at all. Biden has been a public servant for most of his adult life. Dr. Biden, as a teacher has also been a public servant, as have Biden children, with their military service.
It is not surprising, this difference in approach between Dr. Biden and Melania.
