[Many Baseball HOF voters have not worried much about character issues over the decades. Now record holding stars Schilling, Bonds, and Clemens fall short of needed votes to be in HOF. Each has significant character issues. The latter two on issues related to cheating in baseball games. Schilling is a far right . . .
Many baseball professional commentators do not seem to like the character considerations or the morals clause implications].
snip ' . . . Each of these men wears a different shade of scarlet letter. Unless you hold a ballot, its difficult to lump their transgressions real and perceived into one category. Civil War generals dont have much in common with elite baseball players either, but there is this: if their faces are allowed to stand on permanent display long enough, its possible they will inspire different reactions from different people. . . . (54,770 posts)MEDFIELD, MACriticizing the Baseball Writers Association of America for factoring social justice into their decision-making process, retired pitcher Curt Schilling insisted Wednesday that hed already be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame if the MLB had never racially integrated.
I wish the media would put their liberal bias aside and look at the numbers I put up in the era of Black players, said Schilling, who claimed that his Hall-of-Fame case had been negatively affected by his outspoken views, including those on the sanctity of pre-integration baseball.
Its sad to see Cooperstown become yet another beloved American institution thats been crushed by the left. The MLB has made it clear that they want nothing to do with white players like me, so Id rather they just take my name off the ballot entirely. Im sure theyll be happy to roll out the red carpet for undeserving players who fit their identity politics like Derek Jeter. At press time, Schilling slammed the Boston Red Sox, his former team, for caving to the woke mob when they became the last franchise to integrate in 1959.
OK -- It's the Onion, but still . . . . . ..

(15,751 posts)snip " . . . The Baseball Hall of Fame takes the "country club mentality" very seriously when electing members to Cooperstown.
Members of the Baseball Writers Association of America are partly to blame, but the other half is what is called "The Morals Clause."
It is Rule 5 in the process of electing players to the Hall:
Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played.'

Besides, if we're going to keep steroid guys out, we can keep Schilling out for that.
Not sure how he dodged scrutiny, but if didn't 'roid up, he'd be the only pitcher in baseball history that picked up 3+mph on his fastball and more than 4" of break on his slider, after he was 32.
And, the bloody sock. A surface wound still bleeding after 3 days? Sounds like steroids to me.
