(31,261 posts)If I eat too much, too much fat or carbs, or eat too late, I am in for a hard night. Since I ate late today, I had a pan seared pork chop and tortilla chips, believe it or not, that will allow me to sleep tonight, my body is friendly to meat that is not too fat, so it doesnt give me grief for eating late. If I undershoot on calorie load, I normally wake up sometime during the night, typically eating a cookie or a few cashew nuts get me right back to sleep and I dont notice any sleep loss effects the next day - I had to learn that stuff about my body and it changes as I age, eating meat used to give me grief, now my body is very friendly to it, as long as it is not too fat.

(31,261 posts)Poultry, especially white meat chicken, tends to be really mild on the digestive system.
I envy your ability to drink lots of water. I cant get past 64-70 ounces a day, and even the last of that is forced.

I used to cook Chinese decades ago. Went down to Chinatown in Manhattan ( now there are 2 more, one in Queens, one in Brooklyn) bought a wok, untensils, steamer. Among vegetables over time got dried shitake mushrooms, whole water chestnuts, lotus root, boy choy (now you can find it typical American supermarkets), Chinese cabbage, peanut oil, hoisen & oyster sauces, good soy sauce.
Oh, I had w lot of fun. Usually some kind of meat with lots of veggies. 😁

(269,157 posts)Must have been fun - most of that stuff easy to get around here and one of the shops opens at 7.30am so it's safe for old folks like me.
electric_blue68
(14,927 posts)but not the other Chinese veggies, or sauces, nor good soy sauce .
I'd have to buy a new wok, too.
I think I'll stick with trying to cook 💖 Indian again which I never got around to doing much of.
I've read about making your own small tandoori oven!😄
Maybe for outdoor only.
One my absolute favorite cuisines because I love all forms of it - meat, meat & vegetables, vegetarian, and vegan. I've had all of these. I just don't eat really spicy heat in any cuisine. I love savory, not heat.
I can eat a little cumin, a bit of red pepper flakes, a bit of the low end of hot peppers.
Not an early riser at all. Not sure any place in my little nabe has early senior hours

(7,637 posts)Temp was 31F with 26F wind chill but the area is gorgeous. We have a farmhouse and our home backs to about 450 acres of woods and fields. We are supposed to get more snow starting sunday and into monday. So tomorrow, I have to make sure our emergency generator is ready to go. We often lose power when we have significant snow. Trees snap and break power lines. We are not setup for constant snow unlike up north.

(5,164 posts)I ventured out earlier in my robe and coat etc. to view a repair done while I was asleep and get the mail and change the water dishes etc. I may go out for a walk later if I am brave enough. I have to be careful that my insulin does not freeze. Food: I stocked up well this week after another 10 day covid quarantine. We still had enough frozen supplies from before fortunately. For me it will be grain and gluten free siete tacos, chicken, cheese, bertoli basal alfredo sauce, mozzarella, very low carb yogurt, cucumbers and some, apple and a grain free peanut butter cookie.

(38,439 posts)...I do not mean to offend anyone...but, according to the Date...Jan 29 ...it is the coldest part of
the winter, the next two or three weeks..
Once about this time of year...was it 79?? don't know...the temperature was 13 below, and the wind chillwas a minus 80 below zero.........................................................
I thought I was brilliant then ...(now I know this was not brilliant, but very very stupid ) ..
...so I suited up with layer upon layer and jogged a mile or so up and down the street.(wind chill -80)
..well...........as I have said often before................STUPID IS INDEED STUPID!!!

Where are you getting dinner from? I used to live in NYC and miss a lot of the restarurants there. I think I am going to make a pot of homemade soup tomorrow.

(3,268 posts)...8 Degrees and predicted down to 4 degrees tomorrow. Dripping faucets in kitchen and bathrooms, but last time they froze was in a -5 storm with high winds. Dinner was Faker's Stroganoff-A frozen hamburger and gravy entre. Threw in 1/2 pound of Baby Bella mushrooms sauteed in butter and a block of cream cheese and served over mashed potatoes with Mexican corn. Not bad! Checked the long term weather report and these may be the last cool days this winter-the month long prediction says almost every day tops out above freezing with the majority hitting 40. I'll take it.
