I had to go to a location 25 miles from here to get my first shot (Pfizer). But recently some friends were able to schedule a first Pfizer shot for a location very nearby here. They scheduled their second shot at that same location. So I wonder if that location will continue to get Pfizer. Then I'd schedule my second shot there since it's associated with my health care corp, SCL Health.
The place where i received my first shot is at a County office in their community center. So no phone is available to ask.

(7,637 posts)I dont think they are setup for people to pick and chose. Its already hard enough to organize as is.

(46,166 posts)Scheduling is all done online here well in advance anyway so rescheduling can't possibly cause anyone any inconvenience.
So I don't have any concern except that I'd like to know if locations will always receive vaccine from the same company.

(17,336 posts)Husband went on Thursday and was given Moderna. A friend went to the same location on the following Monday and got Pfizer. So at least here they had different vaccine es on different days. My only thought is not to mess around and if at all possible keep the original 2nd appointment they gave you just to be sure you get it on time 🙂

(46,166 posts)Thanks so much for posting. I hadn't heard about a location receiving vaccine from different companies on different days. It's good to learn that.
The locations around here don't or can't accept calls for questions. So thanks again for the information!

(16,386 posts)But the first shot and the booster are always from the same agent. I can always tell when we don't get shipments because the clinic will only give boosters on that day. So far, we've had enough to meet the booster appointments. Shipments are iffy at best and it seems to be getting worse.

(46,166 posts)But it sounds like I could get a notice of cancellation if they don't receive vaccine. My 2nd is scheduled for Saturday, 2/13. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for replying.

(16,386 posts)It can be a little rough but you'll be surprised at how relieved you'll feel when it's over. Even though life goes on as usual: mask, social-distancing, etc., I still feel like a heavy weight has been lifted. Good luck. Let us know.

(46,166 posts)Even though we'll still be masking, using curbside pick up, distancing and washing hands and our groceries - I know that I'll feel better. Some neighbors don't always keep their distance and just naturally keep inching closer during conversations. I know I won't feel quite so irritated, at least, lol.

(15,124 posts)Pfizer kits have 975 doses. I assume that the Moderna will go to more of the smaller rural areas with smaller populations because it requires somewhat of a less frigid storage facility and it is more likely not to have a "leftover" problem if the entire kit is not used promptly.
My small health department has only had Moderna.

(146,333 posts)Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, though, work the same way, actually. However, no trials have been done with people getting the first shot of one and the second of the other, so nobody would recommend that people do that.
Still, it is very, very likely that getting the second shot from the other vaccine would probably work just fine, since the methods used to develop the vaccines target the same spike protein.
It's even possible that cross-vaccination might even work better, but nobody knows.

(46,166 posts)And I'm getting antsy. 2/13 can't get here soon enough. Just hoping for minimal size effects and thinking positive.
