Last week I was all happy and feeling upbeat and confident and the overwhelming majority of people were telling me not to count my chickens, that things were not over, not to get cocky.
Ok, so I am SO not cocky any more and feeling a little freaked out and now the overwhelming majority of people are bitching about THAT.
Look, it isn't being a cocky or defeatist to acknowledge reality. Last week at this time, things looked great. This week...not so much. Both reactions are understandable and OBVIOUSLY not set in stone, so why don't we all stop telling each other what to think and how to feel and start talking again about how to kick that lying mother fucker to the goddam curb???

(45,120 posts)want to be cocky be cocky. This is a message board, created to discuss things, so discuss. People want to bitch at you just ignore them. We can take a breath and relax AFTER Obama wins the election. Or we can cry and freak out if Mitt wins. I knew that there was no way in hell Bush would win in 04, talk about a kick in the gut.

(9,854 posts)I was convinced we had that one, too.
I am not panicked. It ain't exactly a party up in here, but I feel like we just have to buckle down. I do not see how we can formulate an intelligent response, however, if we ignore the facts no matter WHAT they are. If we ignore that something is turning people off, how do we fix it? If we don't try to figure out WHY the polls have changed, how do you turn them back around?
At this point I am just thinking rampant racism cause that is the only thing I can imagine would make people flip so fast and so thoroughly after a single lackluster performance in a debate. And that HAS to be a concern (and, oh my god, has the DU made me hate that word!). Because racism is a tough nut to crack in four weeks. But we have to get this right, so I prefer to acknowledge reality so we can do something about it.

(503 posts)They're showing up suddenly and are 2 to 1 for Obama (out of 3).
That kind of made up for my dental hygenist saying she doesn't like Obama while her dental tool was in my gum. I did get a chance to throw some facts and figures at her during the rinses, though.
It's not over 'til it's over. I'm really looking forward to the next debate. Win, lose or draw I no longer find politics boring.

(9,854 posts)equals giving up?
I thought the point of all the 'don't be cocky' people was that if Obama was perceived to be winning by too much of a margin, people would stay home.
Now everybody is assuming that if you happen to notice that, gee, the polls have shifted...you are clutching pearls and are going to stay home.
It is reality. How do you not notice that? How do you create a reality based strategy if you are going to ignore reality, whatever it is? Noticing that Obama is having a bad week does not mean I am no longer going to vote for him. Why would it? Noticing that he was doing well wasn't going to keep me home, either.

(10,611 posts)It's just that if you express it on a message board, you WILL have people who agree and disagree. That's the nature of the boards.
I think one of the problems here is that some people get really offended and take it personally when some disagree. Then they start up a whole other thread that's mostly about defending their right to feel what they feel, and the arguments spiral on.
