I think Adam Kinzinger, Illinois Republican is playing it smart for the long run

He is setting himself up to be a big player on the conservative side in say 8 years when the party realizes following Trump was a losing direction. He will look quit attractive Nationally at that point.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger starting ‘movement’ to reclaim GOP from fringe elements
in explaining his decision, said “this is no time for silence.”

I wish my newly minted GOP Representative did the same. I wanted to give her a chance, but she drank the Kool-Aid as well.

2. He's My Rep

It's a bit of both. He's clearly positioning for some power role, but he's not a nutjob.
He got first elected in the tea party wave, which is odd because he wasn't running on TP issues.
He won the primary handily, then beat democrat Deb Halvorson. Close race, but not a nail biter.
Halverson's predecessor was a moderate republican too.
He does have principles (I've chatted with him twice) but, he's also up to something.

10. Primaries Twice

He surfed in on the tea party wave, but didn't play ball with the freedumb crowd. They tried to primary him in '14.
He won the primary by 30. GE by 18 - 20.
Then the primaried him in 2020. Won the primary by over 28. Only won the GE by 20.
Both of those primary challenges were very well funded.
His primary wins have always been bigger than GE wins.
They can try, I suppose. But, not only is it a long shot to beat him, but a crazy could hand this purple district to our side. The rep Kinzinger replaced was a dem. It's not like this is a guaranteed R win?

They also must become fiscally moderate, or at least willing to seriously consider that there are situations where money must be spent to save lives and even more money down the road, I don’t think that they currently get that fiscal reality.

If they became true moderate-conservatives, they would attract a large following, including a likely all moderate-conservative Democrats and a good slice of moderate Democrats. I am a person of slight right of the middle-Left, so their ideology would not be remotely appealing to me.

That is fairly well known in IL political circles. He wants to get center Dems and the Rs to win.
