Chef Jose Andres.
He epitomizes what the award is truly about.
On edit, in case you haven't heard of him:

In response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Andrés formed World Central Kitchen which provides healthy food to families and individuals touched by disasters.[19] Since it was founded, the NGO has organized meals in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Zambia, Peru, Cuba, Uganda, and in Cambodia.[2] It has provided aid and meals in the United States and Puerto Rico and has helped during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.

(45,380 posts)feeding hungry people, displaced or homeless people, first responders, etc. He sent pizzas to congressional staffers and police the night after the Capitol attack and was there in the morning cooking them egg sandwiches. He's also the first chef to be sued by a sitting president for pulling his restaurant out of that asshole's hotel.

I would like to see him get an award because people need to see it.

snip-"Abrams' work follows in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s footsteps in the fight for equality before the law and for civil rights," said Lars Haltbrekken, a Socialist Party member of Norway's parliament."
snip-"The U.S. Black Lives Matter movement, as well as Daniel Ellsberg, who leaked the "Pentagon Papers" about the Vietnam War, U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Lee, and WikiLeaks, have also been nominated, as have pro-democracy and civil rights campaigners from Belarus to Poland and Hungary."

(1,639 posts)[paraphrasing]. . . "I think it's great what he's doing and all that but I don't like his support for illegal aliens. Seems to me if you're doing something illegal by definition that makes you a criminal."
I left the room after that statement as I have done so many times when this guy opens his mouth.
Maybe less than a week later, one of the landlords and he were talking about his (apparent) weed-selling days. "At least you're weren't like those gang leaders." Everyone in this house continues to enjoy marijuana which continues to be illegal where we live. Only one of them has a medical card.
I don't really give a damn about this and support legalization. And I'm not sure why I am derailing this thread writing this except that I am going crazy staying in my room for reasons indicated above.
Back on topic. Chef Andres was featured during one of the Inauguration celebrations; he is naturalized citizen and one of those reasons to still be proud of this country despite all the other crap that doesn't need to be named.
Nobel Peace Prize for Andres, yes.

(3,379 posts)I agree that he should get some kind of award, although people like him are not after awards, his award is to see people's smiles.
To make sure everyone understands what the requirements for a Nobel Peace Award is:
According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize shall be awarded to the person who in the preceding year "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".
Its not enough to do community work, it is "between nations".
