Dems are investigating whether the suppression of DHS intelligence about violent white supremacy and right wing extremism -- done to bolster Trump's campaign agitprop -- may have helped exacerbate the insurrection at the Capitol, @RepAdamSchiff tells me:

What should a full accounting into Donald Trump’s effort to incite the violent overthrow of American democracy look like?

With the former president facing a Senate trial, much scrutiny has fallen on his incitement of the insurrection. Democrats will argue that his seditious effort to overturn the election culminated in his direction of a mob to disrupt its peaceful conclusion with a violent assault on the Capitol and on lawmakers themselves.

But a broader accounting into this dark event also demands a serious examination of the apparent role of numerous other Trump officials in corrupting our understanding of the violent right-wing extremist threat, which may have left us unprepared for the attack.

Democrats in the House are scrutinizing the role that the political manipulation of this understanding of right-wing violence inside the government might have played in facilitating the insurrection, according to Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

“We’re exploring what warning signs were missed, whether there were systemic failures, and closely examining whether the politicization of intelligence played a role,” Schiff told me in an emailed statement.

The “politicization of intelligence” is the key phrase. If examined successfully, this would constitute an important aspect of our badly needed post-Trump fumigation.

listening to Mitch McConnell bemoan the chirps of the new Congress member was rich, The man has rarely said a nice word about any Democrat on the floor of the Senate, and has instead accused, maligned, and made zillions of false statements, about anyone, to achieve his goal. He's surprised that someone else one-upped him? The long road of dismantling any kind of adherence to rules and regulations, also has roots in the insurrection. When what is criminal becomes legal because a new equation is added, or a twist in phrase, the line between truth and lies gets wings.
