Michelle Obama thanks Jill Biden for fresh veggies from White House garden she planted

Michelle Obama is thanking Jill Biden for a "delicious surprise" - a basket filled with veggies from the White House garden that she helped plant as first lady in 2009.

Obama expressed gratitude to Biden in a Tuesday Instagram message, posting a photo of the leafy green-stuffed care package that she described as "beautiful."

Obama broke ground on the vegetable garden on the White House's South Lawn nearly 12 years ago as part of her initiative on childhood healthy eating. The then-first lady was reportedly "committed" to preserving the garden. She penned a book in 2011 about the effort, called "American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America."

The outdoor space, officially called the White House kitchen garden, was the site of Melania Trump's first event at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. as first lady back in 2017.

But it just as well they're not for me - I got a lump in my throat from the joy which would have prevented me from swallowing properly.

Is there a hothouse? I thought Melania paved over everything with her lovely tennis court.

Well I'm in Texas and we have fall gardens....

However, even down here it takes longer than 13 days to get a harvest!

But I guess the White House grounds staff kept it going, and good for them!

Given another term, I'm sure Melanoma would have ordered it ripped up and replaced, so I'm glad she didn't get the chance.

didn't turn it into a parking lot for Trump's golf cart collection. Kept it around might be a better phrase.

Obviously the WH gardeners have been maintaining it, not Mel, but even so.

Maybe they have a greenhouse. My fall garden has long since given up the ghost.

We’ve had a coldish winter for us.

Mrs. Obama turned the management of the garden over to the National Park Service to prevent the Trumps (or anyone else) from destroying it. See:https://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/michelle-obama-garden-changes-white-house-229204
Too bad she didn't include Jackie Kennedy's Rose Garden in the plan!
