Like my cousin Roy Cohn, he's lost New York's respect

Feb. 6, 2021, 4:30 AM EST
By David L. Marcus

... he's surely lost forever the chance to get what he really craved: respect in the boardrooms, clubrooms and newsrooms of Manhattan ...

... He loved to show off his gilded triplex penthouse atop Trump Tower; he drew energy from the paparazzi who tailed him on Fifth Avenue; he gloried in seeing his name on hotels and residential buildings in elite neighborhoods ...

Cohn wasn't much of a lawyer, but he was an unrelenting connector and charlatan. He introduced Trump to the tax-evading owners of Studio 54, the corrupt politicians who eased zoning restrictions, the Mafia bosses who allegedly ensured a steady supply of concrete for Trump Tower during a strike ...

Trump derided the city as a "ghost town." He changed his residence to Florida. But he couldn't fool New Yorkers: He fled to Mar-a-Lago because he is a pariah everywhere in the city whose affirmation he coveted ...

He probably should have kept his addiction to fame & adoration out of politics.

His narcisism did him in.

Distance-wise, and even society-wise, Palm Beach County is Siberia compared to Queens County. His face pressed against the window, he can only see entitled dicks like himself on the other side. And he knows even they would treat him like a pariah. Because there is no pulling the wool over their eyes: all of them know what a loser Trump is.

... that the media/press would give him a total pass from the spotlight and scrutiny because he is so fabulously charismatic, popular, and ultra wealthy.

TrDump should have kept his attention on the hotels, casinos, and brothels. He is too cheap white trash for the big time players who seek to occupy the White House. His hands are too filthy and the money in his wallet is not, and ever could be, sufficiently laundered clean.

...for the ultra wealthy.
When his daddy died he was very wealthy. But, his ability to make money is nearly nonexistent.
He's worth under a tenth of what he would be, had he done nothing but golf & sleep around for 30 years.
He's actually dreadfully bad at making money and is rich, but not ultra rich.
The reality is he has never been an actual billionaire.

If it is possible, now they hate him even more. Unlike much of the rest of the country, New Yorkers have always known what a vulgar corrupt con artist Trump was.

I learned early that in NYC, "Donald Trump" was either surrounded by expletives or was the punchline of a joke, or both. New Yorkers voted AGAINST tRump* almost 10-1 in 2020.

That's what people on the East Coast tell me all the time. I am in New England now, but I'm originally from the Midwest and Trump's reputation wasn't all that well known.

He was always a sideshow; fodder for the tabloids.

Real New Yorkers have known what he was for a long time. Some of us have never forgiven him for the destruction of the Art Deco friezes on the Bonwit-Teller building.

There's a reason he got such a low vote total in NYC - those that know him the best, hate him the most.

That, I believe, is his hate for New York, he has never been accepted because people with culture and class understood he has not class, that he is a charlatan, a con, and an amoral man. He never had the respect he wanted, he never understood that respect is earned, and he is such a low life that it is impossible for him to do it.

…..of New York. He never had it. He has always been a joke and a grifter to actual New Yorkers.

As Fran Lebowitz said, "Trump is a tourist's idea of a New Yorker".

He was never respected, but just a character who loved being recognized and loved having his name and photo in the news. He loved stepping out of his gilded tower and dining out at famous restaurants, with a model on his arm and being seen with celebrities. All that is gone now. He'll never have that wonderful life again. His wife will likely never have that life again, either. She was one of the ladies who lunch. I can't imagine replicating that life in Palm Beach, especially when it's out of season.
