I was going to post that he was super in Victor/Victoria (also one of my favorites). Played James Garner's gay bodyguard. RIP

(15,953 posts)It takes more courage to reveal insecurities than to hide them, more strength to relate to people than to dominate them, more 'manhood' to abide by thought-out principles rather than blind reflex. Toughness is in the soul and spirit, not in muscles and an immature mind. - Alex Karras

(12,162 posts)This is a great message and I hope it will be remembered as the lasting legacy of Alex Karras. He was obviously a hell of a lot more than "pawn in game of life"!

kicked the game winning 63 yard field goal to beat Karras's Lions on the last play of the game, Karras commented after the game, "We couldn't figure out what they were doing trying a FG from that far out. We laughed at them for the first 62 yards."
This occurred when the goal posts were still on the goal line rather than the end line. The funny thing about it was that the Saints was an absolute joke of a franchise in those days and their coach thought they had moved the ball to the Lions' 44 and had a 51 yard FG try. He didn't realize until later that they hadn't crossed the 50.
