Obama adviser: No plans
to change Big Bird ad
NBC News, by Eun Kyung Kim

Original Article

A new Obama ad that has ruffled feathers by mockingly portraying Big Bird as a corporate villain will stay on the air, a senior Obama campaign adviser said Wednesday. “I don’t know of any plans to change that ad,” Robert Gibbs told TODAY’s Matt Lauer. The ad sarcastically compares the beloved Sesame Street character, the breakout star in last week's presidential debate, to major white-collar criminals and “gluttons of greed” Bernie Madoff, Kenneth Lay and others. But the organization behind Sesame Street asked the Obama campaign to take down the ad.

If PBS asked for the ad to be removed, i think it should be removed.

And while Obama stays in a position of absolute support with PBS, WE should run this Big Bird issue into the ground. The video is out. We have the ability to save and share it. Obama should comply with the wishes of PBS and remove the official backing of it, IMHO.

Think about it. The issue is that PBS has to say that it's not appropriate due to their charter but Fair Use Doctrine covers the Obama campaign. So it's a friendly game.

And publicly it looks insensitive to PBS to refuse to officially remove it. Being the candidate that supports PBS is most important right now.

Unofficially, have at it.

It is understandable that Sesame Street wants to remain publicly neutral. The purpose of that program is to educate young children, and political partisanship has no place in this purpose.

ALL children, regardless of their parent's political leanings, should have access to the very important foundational learning offered by this program for the past 40+ years. That is why the program is so beloved by so many, of both political leanings. Mitt involved the show into the political arena and Obama can point this out unlimited, BUT when PBS asks that it be allowed to remain neutral, this should be respected.

I suspect some of the kids who would benefit most from the programing on PBS ARE the children of republicans and teabaggers. Sesame Street is in the right in it's efforts to remain neutral.

The only specific Willard offered all night was when he said he was going to cut PBS. Then he made it worse by putting the face of Big Bird on that plan. The one thing wingnuts had been very careful to avoid for years.

Interesting...

I like the world map LOL--outside of US and Canada, most of the world is re. Big Bird. England and Australia show a slight (very slight) interest.

They have no idea what a symbol of UNITY & SOLIDARITY Big Bird has become. Lovin it.
