Founders discussed British leaders impeached after leaving office,

and praised those actions when adopting impeachment language for our Constitution.

That's a powerful argument put forward during the impeachment trial just now.

Clearly the Founding Fathers wanted Congress to have the power to impeach and convict former officials.
