Almost every senatorial eye in the chamber was glued to the screens as lead House manager Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) played a 13-minute video depicting the events of Jan. 6 to introduce the impeachment case against Trump with a few notable exceptions.
While the screen showed demonstrators marching on the Capitol, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) looked down at the pad of lined paper in his lap, where he had already begun doodling with a pencil. Behind him, Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) studied papers in his lap, taking only the tiniest glimpses at the screen to his right. A few seats over, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) also focused most of his attention on papers in front of him instead of on the images depicting the insurrection at the Capitol, and a few seats from him, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) did the same.

(25,485 posts)It's intended to convey disinterest and that it's not worth their time.
It's actually more aggravating than if they were just cowards. They're not hiding from it. They're saying it isn't important.

(994 posts)Republican cowards can't watch video so they can vote to not convict

(3,403 posts)at least the past two years, over and over. When interviewed that should be the first question they are asked "Why are you so afraid of trump?" I would bet the 1st thing that would happen is a lot of blood will got to their faces, they may not feel shame but they know they are guilty and guilt also makes people go red in their faces.

(41,862 posts)Had they done their worst and won the day, those REPUBLICAN SENATORS would probably salivate at the prospect of TRUMP BEING PRESIDENT FOR LIFE..
Every fucking one of them, sided with the insurrectionists in one way or another. Lets hope our FBI and Department of Justice will investigate the insurrection fully.. especially about the tours the day before to certain people by Boebert.

(15,957 posts)I must say I was excited to see the video footage of the 2 seditionists going through the senate desk looking for papers, however, someone edited out the audio of them saying Hawley and Cruz would be proud of them or something along those lines.

(295 posts)Don't worry. That video will resurface again in it's entirety during their 14th Amendment hearings, my guess when Summer arrives (hopefully sooner).

(9,670 posts)Government is a big make-believe, pretend time for the GOP. Right or wrong matters not. They could be for it today and against it tomorrow. They have but one goal and that's to nullify the other side. Even when the fate of our country weighs in the balance, they play their game and their electorate accepts it as a victory against enemy forces.
This won't hold and something will eventually have to give. Looks like that might be our democracy. But not yet. Not today.
