1) He wants to win this election

2) He wants to run in 2016 and he knows he needs to deliver the goods in this debate to excite the base and get democrats interested in him.

I have confidence that he'll turn a lot of this around. Contrary to the right-wing insults, he's a very, very knowledgeable, bright guy. I remember his Senate hearings, and he can "bring it" when the Repubs push their nonsense too far.

He'll probably be a slight bit restrained though, so that Lyin Ryan doesn't start getting some "pity votes". I wouldn't be at all shocked if Joe doesn't get Ryan to "lose it" and do something stupid. Push his buttons, Joe!
