OP
The stadiums are often paid for with tax money so they could argue public funding plays a role.

It's usually the city. That is the case with American Airlines Center, which the Mavericks use.

Dallas taxpayers approved a new hotel tax and rental car tax to pay for a new arena to cover a portion of the funding, with the two benefiting teams, the Mavericks and the Stars, picking up the remaining costs, including cost overruns.

The Star Spangled Banner does not need protection.

A Texas politician can wink to people who want to leave the union, while doing everything possible to look like they are loyal to the United States of America. A Texas politician can support a politician who can't spell the United States of America while being angry that someone would dare kneel before the national anthem. We are special!
