That a president can get away with doing a coup attempt using their supporters as long as they dance well enough around their intentions?
That a president can get away with one of the highest crimes in the republic and can also successfully intimidate with violence the legislative branch and their own party?
That mafia and banana republic tactics are now acceptable in America?
I really hope that Cyrus Vance doesnt end up being another Mueller and Fitzgerald, our republic deserves justice.

And half the American people are fine with this.
America drops down in status once again.

How can we preach human rights, democracy, rule of law?
How can we pretend to be a civilized country?

(25,981 posts)This is another aspect of the fallout we will endure if there's a vote to acquit. The proceedings are being watched worldwide. Our good standing took a beating from trump's poor governance. It's going to be even worse if we can't be shown to hold him accountable. Our whole country will be held as hypocrites, what US is supposed to stand for will be considered nothing more than lip service. Senators voting to acquit are not just cowards trying to hang on to personal power, they are thieves robbing the country of what little good name we have left.

(47,130 posts)A sitting president sends a blood thirsty mob to kill members of congress and his VP.
All for the purpose of overturning a legal election. To retain power as a dictator.
And he is gets off with no consequences. A corrupt congress, with some members
likely to be president one day.
We cannot claim we believe in human rights with so much racial inequity.
And other violations (babies in cages, etc.)
And allowing almost half a million Americans to die due to criminal indifference and inaction.
Refusal to assist Americans in dire straights, the list goes on.

(9,730 posts)It's OK if you are a rePuke. They're given a pass on everything. Teapot Dome? No big deal. Great Depression? Unfortunate, but no one's fault, really. Watergate? Boys will be boys! Grenada? Well, Reagan had to invade SOMETHING after the Marine bombings in Lebanon.
Iran/Contra? These things happen! Panama? Well, GHW Bush had to invade SOMETHING, didn't he? 9/11? Who could POSSIBLY have foreseen such a thing? It's not as if there were any warnings, after all. The endless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? Well, GW Bush had to invade SOMETHING, didn't he? Trump? Meh...time to move on. Whatever happened to unity?
I'd say, "Damn them all to hell," but it would be a waste of breath and energy. They do what they do, and they get away with it.

That is the message.
Remember, none of this applies to Democrats. Biden will probably be impeached for wearing whimsical socks.

(53,061 posts)A majority of Senators will find him guilty.
Just because the number for conviction will not reach the number stipulated for a super majority does not mean he was acquitted.
After this is over the headline will be that a bipartisan majority voted for conviction.
Even more important is the percent of the public that agrees to convict. I am guessing it will be 65%
