And there was a broader coup attempt, which is why 10 past defense secretaries issued their anti-coup statement just a few days before the capitol events. Why would it have been needed to buy time? What events were hoped for that change the balance of forces?

No apostrophe used to form a plural, no mixing of their, there and they‘re, and no using „loose“ where „lose“ was meant.

If one word was used instead of two, I think it was clear enough whether a Democratic Senator was meant or a building at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. I think the OP can be forgiven for assuming we‘d know the difference.

26. Can I just say here that I love Senator Whitehouse?

The man is fearless about speaking the truth in clear and unambiguous terms. He doesn't get as much national attention as some other Democratic Senators, and he doesn't get as much credit from Democratic activists as he deserves either. He is a true treasure.
