MSNBC, Morning Joe, NYT Peter Baker, 7:36am.
Senate vote on the rules, was 89-11.
Baker's point was that the Impeachment Trial Rules were fair by 89-11 Senate vote.
11 Senators voted against, not wanting to recognize the trial by any way - those 11 were trump's hardcore base.
[Those 39 Republicons? Hmmmm. Really apart from the 'all republicans are totally evil' attitude, there may be some movement there]

(3,697 posts)Mitch is smart is enough to realize the GOP is screwed either way and convicting Trump is the least bad option. Corporate and fat cat donations to the GOP will shrivel if they don't convict. Trump is going to be a loose canon regardless. Better to ditch him now rather than be branded as the party of seditionists and traitors that's owned by Trump.
Besides that Dems have the WH until 2024 and I expect them to gain Senate seats and hold the House. There is no need for Corporate/PAC donations to flow to the GOP if they are in the minority and can't deliver any more tax cuts and judges.

those old hands that are talking about a new party best be talking to these senators. a vote to convict should be required to get you into their new club.
