The Trump treatment

No, that's not a typo. It's also not a fluke.
President Joe Biden is posting the best inner-party approval numbers for any new U.S. president in the history of modern polling. Gallup last week pegged Biden's approval among Democratic voters at a staggering 98 percent. Clearly overjoyed that Trump has left office, Democrats are giving Biden nearly universal, unblinking support at the start of his presidency, and rallying around his larger agenda in unprecedented numbers:
97 percent of "liberals" support the Covid relief bill that Biden is championing.
96 percent of Democrats support his response to the pandemic.

The press is still writing about how popular Trump is with Republicans. "Trumps Loyal Fans Pose Challenges for Republicans, Biden," read a recent Associated Press headline.
As for the wildly popular Biden? He's often treated as a sidebar by the press. Biden just became the first candidate in U.S. history to win 80 million votes. He did it during a pandemic, yet some states saw an astronomical voter turnout rate hovering at 80 percent. Biden received 34 million (!) more votes than Bill Clinton did in 1996, and 16 million more than Barack Obama received in 2012. Shouldn't that, along with the unprecedented 98 percent party support he currently enjoys, make Biden a political phenomenon in the eyes of the press? Shouldn't his "iron grip" on the Democratic Party, in the form of his stratospheric approval rating, be the topic of endless reporting and analysis?
Instead, the news has been shrugged off, as if it's common for a president to have universal support from his party members. The press seems completely uninterested in the fact that Biden's base is more excited about its presidency than Trump's base ever was about his.

(33,164 posts)Y'know the kind, where some morning news show cuts off to an intrepid talking head gabbing it up with a diner load of people coincidentally wearing Biden/Harris caps.
Democrats aren't really hanging out in diners or restaurants these days as we're still trying to keep from getting Covid!
But, yeah, they never talk to Dems because reason doesn't get as much breathless coverage as whackadoodle theories about Q, "stolen elections", and whatever else they happen to believe on any given day.

(16,616 posts)a correspondent on the ground in Wyoming where Matt Gaetz gave an anti-Liz Cheney speech, claiming she looked and looked all over gyms, bars, a gun store in search of a single person who supported Liz Cheney and couldn't find one.
It was so disingenuous. She went to an anti-Cheney rally and couldn't find a Cheney supporter! Then she checked out bars, gyms and a gun store!

(6,556 posts)Biden and Harris are doing their job, not creating chaos and hyping propaganda. Boring does not sell news.

(16,110 posts)it is "boring" for the media and they have to look for things to pick at.
I'm waiting for them to begin screaming about Biden's whimsical socks or some such garbage.
I was one of the people who was dubious about Biden. I'm really pleased with how he is seeing the problems and working to fix them, with or without help from the other side....well, without because the other side will NEVER vote for anything good for humans.

(18,486 posts)That 98-2 split is a pretty ominous chasm that could spell doom for President Biden and the Dems if they can't close it.
They need to find the voters in that 2% and saturate us with interviews with them about why they don't like the job President Biden is doing.
We need to hear from those forgotten Americans.

(33,525 posts)...that while I always respected Joe Biden, his first weeks in office have been a revelation. I thought he he was going to be very good, but "very good" doesn't quite capture what he's been, which is purely magnificent.

(7,624 posts)"You are not alone." It's ok to continue supporting Trump, no matter what seditious, corrupt, rabidly insane thing he does because...you are not alone. You are not alone. You are not alone. Look at all these other Republicans- THEY are sticking by him. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE ALONE.

(7,263 posts)I'm sure we will hear from them on the MSM very soon.
(Sorta. I really don't care. I'm too busy supporting President Joe and promoting his very PROGRESSIVE agenda.)
(On Edit: See what acting BIG on real change will get you...I have been waiting 40 years for a Democratic President to act Big. Not a slam on Pres Clinton or Pres Obama - I understand the political limitations both faced. But it is refreshing and the numbers prove that th younger members of the Party are on board.)

(11,564 posts)My fervent hope, not without some justification, I hope, is that the unmistakable improvement in American life will drag a significant number of moderate Republicans at least a little way to the left. Even grudging respect would be a significant achievement, given the last 4 or 5 years.
