Not sure if I should continue in the Trial thread

or not.

The House Managers hit on Trump's anticipated defense of free speech twice. They must feel that it is his only defense. I think so, too.

They might point out that while Trump incited a riot (which they will claim was not intentional,) the charge before them is inciting an insurrection (which they will claim was not intentional.)

I think this would be splitting hairs. The Defense's job is to give the Repubs a hook to hang their hats on. So, when they get called out on media bytes, they can give a plausible excuse.

I am not only convinced that Trump is guilty, but now I favor his going to jail -- which is not on the table this day. We have to move on to the vote to prevent him from ever holding office again.

at defense. They will conflate BLM protests and ANTIFA with Insurrection mobs and mildly assertive/critical comments from Rep Maxine Waters or Schumer (re: bias on SCOTUS) with Trump's overt incitement. Yes, anyone with a functioning synapse will see that as ridiculous, but look who they are trying to convince--not to mention the Fox/OANN crowd watching at home.

I recall that Trump said something about Waters that could have gotten her killed (can't remember exactly,) so I don't blame her a bit for reacting badly to Donald Trump. But, they won't mention that.

They have to appeal to the jury. I believe that they are brainwashed and I doubt they will convict, although it would be in their personal best interests to do so. I think that some are complicit, and also that there is Russian money involved through the NRA.

I am more than willing to be pleasantly surprised.

If Trump walks away free from any criminal charges, it is going to be a travesty.

Nobody has the right to start an insurrection, especially not the President.

I have watched the entire defense presentation and found it to be very compelling.

Major Garret on CBS summed up the reason that the Republicans will not vote to impeach. He says the Republican Senators know that Trump is guilty of what he is accused of, but are afraid a conviction will further inflame the country. When did we start governing around not wanting to appease outlaws' feelings? Did we learn nothing from Chamberlin? We don't need to try to pacify the White Nationalists, it would be a never ending retreat ending in a pogram. We need to end the Fascists will and ability to continue to attack us if we expect peace in our time. The only solution that the hard-core right has for us is a final solution. Many of them hate us and want us dead.....

To Hell with that the Republican's fear, do the right thing, go ahead and inflame the right wingers, bring them out into the open where they can be put where they belong. It is my honest opinion, that we will either have to confront the hard-core Right, or let them rule us. The longer they are allowed to grow, the stronger they get, and the harder, and bloodier, the task will be. The Germans made a similar mistake with ignoring the rising of the Nazis, by the time they realized the critical danger they were in, it was too damn late. We had better be paying attention to history or we are likely to be repeating it.
