Could the Senate call for a secret vote - so the Repugs won't have to go on record - and vote to convict him?

(7,820 posts)But I actually suspect its more likely some will just abstain or not show. Which would actually lower the threshold needed to convict, so...
If 25 do not show, then 50 Democratic votes can convict Dumpy.

(102,292 posts)they won't because it would take little time before R's started coming out to declare their fealty in the vote and thus those who voted to convict would be pretty promptly identified by default.
I still think they should have gone for it with the proviso that the actual vote would be revealed sometime prior to the next Congressional elections to address the issue of transparency.
