My question: If not an intentional insurrection, then what does he claim WAS the intent??

The rally was planned for January 6th. It wasn't a campaign rally - all the votes were in. The House Managers showed it was a "Stop the Steal" and "Fight for Trump" rally meant to overturn the election.

Defense pretense could be:

1) Trump didn't really mean to overturn the election by an insurrection.
- Begging the question: Then why rally them that day, and turn them to the Capitol at that moment?

2) He didn't direct them to breach the Capitol.
- Begging the question: What did he mean when he told them to go to the Capitol and "give Republicans courage" to overturn the election? If they stayed outside the boundaries, they wouldn't have been heard.

3) He didn't direct them to use violence to interrupt the vote certification.
- Begging the questions: If it was all to "stop the steal," and violent insurgence was the only means left, what else could possibly have been his intention in holding that rally on that day, with his most rabid supporters, using those incendiary words?

His only claim is that he is above all law and is never ever responsible for anything - that has been his modus operandi all his effin' life.

The only way to do that is if they entered the building. End of story. They weren’t exactly a peaceful group with their tactical uniforms and hostile attitudes. It’s not like they were going to sit on the steps and sing protest songs.

Trump was just expecting the crowd to surround the Capital and show off their numbers...sort of like the million women march a week after Trump's 2017 inauguration. Trump never would have encouraged such unlawfulness.

Didn't mention or explain why he didn't make any attempt to stop the violence.

The GOP supporters of Trump are delusional. Don't waste too much time worrying about how to convince them of anything.
