I know little about rabbinical law, so I'm not sure if there are exceptions made for truly exceptional situations.

Would not defending POTUS (I know how that sounds, this is hypothetical) be exigent circumstances? In this hypothetical world, I don't imagine the court would be forced to observe, as well, but irreparable harm could befall the client.

Or are observant Jews compelled, no matter what? It has always struck me as having swaths of pragmatism through its fabric, more so than other religions - especially huge segments of the other Abrahamic ones.
