Apple and Facebook have been in a very public spat over the course of the last few months as Apple dials up its pro-privacy stance. The two companies have long had tension, but more recently, Facebook is taking shots at an upcoming iOS and iPadOS feature that will require apps and data companies such as Facebook to ask for users' permission before tracking them across other sites and websites.
While for the most part, the war of words between the tech titans has remained professional, Mark Zuckerberg and Tim Cook have also shared a barrage of attacks toward each other. During a 2018 interview in the midst of Facebook's notorious Cambridge Analytica scandal, Cook was asked how he would lead Apple if it were to face a similar crisis. Cook responded by ruling the hypothetical situation out of the question, saying Apple would not be in the situation Facebook was in, thanks to its differing stance on privacy and user data. Zuckerberg shot back, calling Cook's comments on TV "extremely glib" and "not at all aligned with the truth."
Zuckerberg, outraged by Cook's comments and public influence on Facebook's reputation, reportedly told internal aides and team members that Facebook needs to "inflict pain" on Apple, according to sources who spoke on anonymity to The Wall Street Journal. Last month, during the company's earnings call, Zuckerberg called Apple an increasingly bigger threat to Facebook and accused the Cupertino tech giant of using its platforms to interfere with how Facebook operates its own apps.

(33,643 posts)Unless you take steps to prevent it, Facebook will then know (damn near) everything you do on the browser that you're logged into FB with.
Every page you visit, how far down the page you scrolled, what you hovered your mouse over, and anything you put in a shopping cart or bought.
With all the common browsers anyway.
What Zuckerberg is basically pissed about is that Apple has the audacity to want to get in the way of that happening ... without your authorizing it.

I was on Facebook for one month and quit, there is so much usless drivel that I would have preferred haning out with a bunch of 11 year old teeny-boppers fawing over the latest boy band ( which is what the GOP became with the tea Party & Trump)
Apple's protected my privacy and repsected my copyrighted works since day one.
Mr Zuchburger is not a Steve Jobs, he's more like Trump kid; spoiled and inconsiderate.
Bad business models never last long, eh Pet Rock?

I'm no Apple fanboi my any means. I do not own any Apple products. My kids do, not me.
Zuckerberg wants Apple to leak user information to give him shelter.
Much the same way an abusive parent wants the other to be abusive so it supports their actions and makes then culpable in any potential charges, and prevents the other parent from going to CPS as readily.

I'm with Apple all the way on this. I detest FB with a passion and wish DUers would not post links to that crap site.

(14,529 posts)I am one of the most committed FB haters here. I feel a little bad about hurting the feelings of FB users here but...it really isn't about them. That company is a fucking cancer and they are part of a much larger societal problem.
And that toxic guy just goes around buying up everything and buying his way into all sorts of places. And the company generally is sleazy, tacky and creepy.
WhatsApp was a far more utilitarian product than shitbook, but after it was bought out by this creep, I no longer trust it.
I wish they would actually put him in prison to send a message:

(14,529 posts)I am spending more time than I care to turning off all the non-essential spyware present on my phone. I am starting wonder how convenient the bloody things are when you cannot get rid of worthless shit like Facebook.
I don't even use diarrhoea-book but it is still there. I get pissed off when I see it. Seriously who does the tacky creep think he is kidding? I get annoyed when I see anything Facebook.
It is mostly a time-suck. I should be offline right now but I fucked up my phone by turning a bunch of crap off and have to fix it.
And Zuckerberg's faux populism is grating. "I gift free spyware to poor people. I am MLK and Gandhi in one."
Please shut up about education, voting rights and health, you anti-intellectual piece of shit.
