(1,202 posts)You're probably right. But this idiot cannot form a coherent sentence. I mean people wonder how stereotypes come to life....

Selfish I, me, mine attitude of christian prosperity gospel.
Indignant that he's facing the consequences of his thoughtless heartless words. Wah.

Blue_true
(31,261 posts)They believe that everyone but them are getting handouts and when the time comes, they try to punish the freeloaders, even if no one ever was freeloading.
Irish_Dem
(47,107 posts)That is part of why they don't want to provide governmental services, more for themselves.

(54,013 posts)But this guy's bonkers. We do expect people to take some personal initiative and protect themselves, obviously. But a mayor's job in a time like this is to make public resources available to those who are truly in need. And there are many, many people in every community who don't have the resources to survive a disaster like this... a disaster partly caused by the foolish privatization of the energy sector.
What an entitled twit. I'm certain from his post that he has power and running water right now. Only someone who doesn't know want could be this heartless.

(3,764 posts)I am sitting in a restaurant in Houston waiting for food because although I have electricity, I dont have water. My phone is working on and off, my internet is down. And it might sound like a small thing but I work from home, so no internet, no work.

Blue_true
(31,261 posts)There were some that did not, but they were in a decided minority. They practice evil pretty much every day of their lives, and most likely would chose a cleverly disguised satan over Jesus 10 times out of 10.
ProfessorGAC
(65,050 posts)...this randian know-it-all is the mayor of a town of 4,600.
His biggest concern is whether to license the next pizza joint.
His pomposity greatly exceeds his importance as an elected official.
And, he's a moronic punk who apparently has never heard of an "act of god". And, I'm certain he beats his chest over his faith.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)And people there likely lapped that up like hungry wolves. Maybe they should have elected the person who showed some concern about the wellbeing of the town.
ProfessorGAC
(65,050 posts)...he could get elected by his drinking buddies.
My town is 6,000 and it happened here. And we're still technically Chicago metro.
Big mouth, fake veteran drunk who owned a plumbing outfit got elected mayor by word of mouth of the gang he drank with.
That guy has said some really stupid stuff, but not close to as bad as "don't care if you die".
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)Too many people dont care about local elections. Our side is particularly bad in that regard.

JDC
(10,127 posts)They are doers and thinkers. They will plan and provide for their family by other means. They also will absolutely not accept any Covid relief money for themselves or their children. Food on the table and making the mortgage payment by any way other than jobs that they have yet to get would send the wrong message to the kids.

Where I came from in the South, self-righteousness was a sin too. Of course, all my folks went through the Great Depression and WW2 so humility was well instilled into everyone.
Nothing worse for the USA's future than an arrogant, evangelical Republican on a soap box...
