But this guy's bonkers. We do expect people to take some personal initiative and protect themselves, obviously. But a mayor's job in a time like this is to make public resources available to those who are truly in need. And there are many, many people in every community who don't have the resources to survive a disaster like this... a disaster partly caused by the foolish privatization of the energy sector.

What an entitled twit. I'm certain from his post that he has power and running water right now. Only someone who doesn't know want could be this heartless.

I am sitting in a restaurant in Houston waiting for food because although I have electricity, I don’t have water. My phone is working on and off, my internet is down. And it might sound like a small thing but I work from home, so no internet, no work.

His pomposity greatly exceeds his importance as an elected official.

My town is 6,000 and it happened here. And we're still technically Chicago metro.
Big mouth, fake veteran drunk who owned a plumbing outfit got elected mayor by word of mouth of the gang he drank with.
That guy has said some really stupid stuff, but not close to as bad as "don't care if you die".

They are doers and thinkers. They will plan and provide for their family by other means. They also will absolutely not accept any Covid relief money for themselves or their children. Food on the table and making the mortgage payment by any way other than jobs that they have yet to get would send the wrong message to the kids.

Where I came from in the South, self-righteousness was a sin too. Of course, all my folks went through the Great Depression and WW2 so humility was well instilled into everyone.
