GOP Sens. Mitt Romney and Tom Cotton announce bill to raise the minimum wage that also bars

undocumented workers.

Republican Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah and Tom Cotton of Arkansas on Tuesday announced a proposal aimed at boosting the federal minimum wage coupled with preventing businesses from hiring undocumented workers.

The two GOP lawmakers said they'll be introducing a bill that "gradually raises the minimum wage" and "requires employers to verify the legal status of workers."

"Congress hasn't raised the minimum wage in more than a decade, leaving many Americans behind," Romney said Tuesday. "I'm introducing a bill with @SenTomCotton that would increase the minimum wage while ensuring businesses cannot hire illegal immigrants."

"We have an obligation to protect our workers and fellow citizens," Cotton said.

Romney and Cotton did not reveal a number, but said that a higher minimum wage will come "without costing jobs, setting it to increase automatically with inflation." Cotton said that the increase would be intended to go into effect after the coronavirus pandemic has ended, and would include protections for small businesses.

even a raise of 10% is only 72 cents.
We need to double it.

As for undocumented workers, just enforce the laws we have. Target the businesses not the workers.

tying it to inflation now would just keep it way too low.

Nice that they're talking about it at least, but as always, never trust a repub to do the right thing.

... to land in the Oval Office come 2024. They will get him in front of the media for name recognition opportunities and to polish his rough awkward edges.

Deep down he is a Nazi,... but if they work on him they can transition him into a camera ready, kinder and gentler Fuhrer of the people with maybe even a pleasant demeanor and disposition.

Achtung Tom Cotton.

The Washington Post reports that the Trump Organization currently employs a “roving crew of Latin American employees” to perform masonry and maintenance work at his winery and various golf clubs around the country. For almost two decades, the group has been comprised of workers who came into the US illegally—the penalty for which the president seemingly believes should be death—according to two former crew members. Another one, who still works for Trump, told reporters Joshua Partlow and David A. Fahrenthold that remains the case today. President Trump “doesn’t want undocumented people in the country,” said Jorge Castro, an Ecuadorian immigrant without legal status who left the company last spring after nine years. “But at his properties, he still has them.” He added: “If you’re a good worker, papers don’t matter.”
