For fun, sometimes I will go on local newspaper Facebook pages when they have a post about a city or town talking about removing a Confederate statue. The usual knuckle draggers come out of the woodwork and accuse everyone of trying to “erase history” and some old white man or woman will inevitably post a comment about blacks owning slaves and that it was the Republicans who ended slavery.

My favorite comments to stir the pot: I ask them why they are dishonoring their Republican forefathers by glorifying the people that Republicans fought against, or I remind them that the people memorialized in the statues were probably Democrats, and I ask them why they are defending statues of Democrats.

You should see how they sputter and get all pissy when I say those things. It’s glorious!!

and explained that the confederate flag’s color was white because they surrendered. Also explained that they we not patriotic to the USA because they were secessionists.

... I have no problem with them waiving the confederate flag - but they have to be accurate. It should just be a white surrender flag. They don’t seem to like that.

I use the same tactic on trumpers at work. I still work with people who refuse to believe the rioters were trumpers. That it was the work of antifa. I've asked if they have seen the videos, because it shows trumpers breaking into the Capitol buildings. They claim that the people were antifa's dressed as trumpers. So I'd say , oh so antifa were smart and cunning enough to break into one of the most watched building, not be seen on camera or get caught. Yet they were also smart enough trick those stupid sheep idiots into getting caught on film, post it on social media and get arrested. Man those trumpers are sure stupid". Them they're just at a loss for words, stammering, it's awesome.

If Republicans really were the ones who saved the Union, then shouldn’t they be proud of that? They are the ones who SHOULD want the statues removed.

I’m in the process of trying to find some good United Daughters of the Confederacy quotes to use - ones that were spoken when the statues were erected.
