Hillary Clintons only crime was being a woman.
If she had a penis she would have been president.
Sad but true.

(7,715 posts)Rs aren't very smart, but they are vicious and persistent. That's why their totally baseless smears stick. This, plus voter suppression in all its legal and illegal forms, is their stock and trade.
We need to learn this art, but to do it legally and ethically.

(30,813 posts)But I tend to have problems with sweeping statements about groups of people in general. "They are all 'fill in the blank' " gets my hackles up every time. My mother used to say that often and it inevitably was followed by a racist or bigoted or sexist statement. Then I would argue with her.
Many of his supporters were and are deplorable, in my opinion, based on their behaviors. Others were swept up in a movement due to ignorance or local culture or cult-like adoration. I don't find those excuses to be acceptable for responsible citizens, but neither do I think that they are deplorable human beings for being dumb or weak or turning a blind eye to Trump's glaring faults.
Not only do I think her statement was inappropriate, but it was also a political disaster. Imagine undecided or wavering voters being told they were deplorable if they voted for Trump. It was just a very bad choice of assertions to make.
As far as Joe's statement goes, saying that racists are demented is rather a clever remark (although I disagree with it factually). The only ones who can voice their offense are those who admit that they are racists!

It's like when in 1996 Hillary talked about organized crime: gangs, the mob, drug cartels and referenced John Dilulio's 1995 essay, "The Coming of the Super-Predator" (printed in Newsweek in December that year). In no way was that about race, OBVIOUSLY, because it's ORGANIZED CRIME. Ridiculous. But it was used to convince uninformed people she was racist and responsible for the 1994 Crime Bill and they shouldn't vote for her in November 2016.
On the other hand, an elected official who did vote for the 1994 bill and called the same people "horribly violent" "who are deeply sick and sociopathic" and need to be "put behind bars" -- why, that was completely ignored, fine!
