but in this year of WFH... and little to no travel

I have gone from filling my tank once every week and a half... to once every couple of months

It's not the petro producers doing it.
Unleaded is sold on the commodity market just like crude.
As Texas refineries went down this weak, commodity speculators started driving up the cost of unleaded at the wholesale level.
One of the biggest economic mistakes of the 20th century was allowing the finished goods to be commoditized. It completely eliminated competition by price from the refining industry.
The same people who claim free markets & competition are the solution to everything added an unnecessary layer of profit taking and a point of competition vanished. A terrible decision.

I don’t want to minimize the hardship for those who have to drive long distances for work, but I’m pretty sure I’ve driven less in this past year than I used to every month.

I don't remember the last time they were this high, regular isn't up to $3 yet, but premium is well above it and diesel is going up rapidly, too.

10. It was $2.49 most places here at the beinning of the month, today it was at $2.69 some places
