Rant: Companies giving employee bonuses to get vaccine

Companies like Kroger, Target, Trader Joes and others are offering their employees bonuses for getting the vaccine. How about this incentive....if you don't want to get a vaccine go work somewhere else. I'm tired of society catering to the nuts.

Rant over.

It means the employer is looking out for his customers as well as his employees.

These companies are also facing the hard truth of community spirit in the U.S. right now: most people won't do anything out of the goodness of their hearts anymore. They won't do something for the public good just because it's for the public good. It has to be incentivized.

So there we are: Ayn Rand won...

Some people may be hesitant to get vaccinated because they'd have to take off of work to do it. This eliminates that worry.

It is a good message to send to you client base that you encourage the best possible COVID hygiene among your workforce and are willing to pay extra to achieve it.

I think this is going to take many forms over the next few months. Companies will incentivize the vaccine because it helps the get back to normal operations. In some cases, it will be positive incentive like this. Or it could be negative incentive like you are suggesting. Frankly, positive incentive is easier and will work better.

My company does this in an indirect way. We have a healthy lifestyle point system that ultimately determines how much we pay for our health care premiums. We can get points for exercise, education, well visit care, etc. This year they have a bunch of points for getting the vaccine. Its a win-win.

It is crucial that we get people vaccinated to prevent mutations which will prolong the pandemic.
