https://www.oregonlive.com/portland/2021/02/portland-police-guard-dumpster-face-off-with-residents-trying-to-get-discarded-food-from-fred-meyer.htmlWhat a fucking hellscape.
Roughly a dozen Portland police officers faced off with a small group at a Northeast Portland Fred Meyer on Tuesday after people tried to take food that had been thrown away.
Workers at the Hollywood West Fred Meyer threw away thousands of perishable items because the store, like many others, had lost power in an outage brought on by the regions winter storm.
Images on social media showed mountains of packaged meat, cheese and juice, as well as whole turkeys and racks of ribs that had been tossed into two large dumpsters near the store.
(snip)
Simonis noted that all the food was still in good condition, given the cold weather. One person picked up a carton of juice with an expiration date in March.

OP
If they let people take it, and there was food poisoning as a result, well...

considering the ambient temperature. Plus it's not like the store was out of power for days
(But there is a legal reason for them to throw it away)

(34,661 posts)6. Here in the Vegas Valley,
every Super Market donates everything to the Food Bank. Not Surprised Fred Meyers(Kroger) in Portland is doing this. Just the Picture says several Thousands of dollars of useful product just went to waste. The real Story is,Meyers Customer Base does not meet their Store Inventory levels. Some body is eating their lunch.
