1. I imagine the FBI has a dozen agents scanning footage all day long.

There must be hundreds of cameras in there.

They are extremely good at picking up the smallest of clues.
This is how the Boston Marathon bombers were identified.

From what I've heard the Capitol has cameras all over the public and common areas, which makes sense.

Haven't seen that much evidence of it. Most of the FBI wanted images are *still* from social media. With this like in other areas, we probably have an outsized expectation of coverage and competence.

10. But why WOULD you see "evidence" of it beyond what's been shown?

Do you see all the camera footage a local mall has when a crime is reported on the news, instead of extremely brief video from at most 2 cameras? Of course not.

11. For sure absence of evidence is not evidence of absence

I've been clear on my two points of doubt: the impeachment trial could have shown much more inside, security camera based footage. There wasn't much. I found that curious, but I get it if it doesn't disturb other people's faith in massive security camera coverage, or whatever. Second, the FBI is clearly committed to putting out images of Capitol rioters. If there were some massive coverage of super awesome security cameras at the Capitol, I'd expect to see more from those sources. But most of their pictures are still from social media that people are sending them. Seems weird, if we assume super awesome security camera coverage, but who knows, maybe they're saving that like the kick-ass evidence in the Mueller report, yaaargh. I guess I'll have to accept on faith, and contrary to what's been made public, that there is awesome security camera coverage of the Capitol that will eventually come into play. Amen.

12. Every Federal building is literally bathed in security cameras

and as the tech has been upgraded, so too have the camera systems. These operate out of NOCs within the larger buildings.

I know in the federal building I worked in for over 30 years, they went full bore after the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, and then again after 9/11. The passage of the stimulus under Obama ("ARRA" - American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) meant additional security improvements to federal buildings as needed. For example - https://projects.propublica.org/recovery/gov_entities/4740/list/3

The issue here is that for the felony charges for the suspects who have been arrested, much of that footage is probably being used in tandem with the thousands of hours of "personal" videos that were taken on ground level to be used in the grand juries that they have impaneled to do the charges.

If you've never worked in a federal building, I expect it would look like it's all vaporware.

are you planning to pull out the popcorn for?

Here is where they are so far with the cases (continually updated) - https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/capitol-breach-cases

They'll be lucky to have a trial start anytime soon, let alone within a year.

Wow, what slugs! This entire thing is so anti decency.
