Among the News Corp publications joining Google News Showcase will be The Wall Street Journal, Barrons, MarketWatch, and the New York Post; in the UK: The Times and The Sunday Times, and The Sun; and in Australia a range of news platforms, including The Australian, news.com.au, Sky News, and multiple metropolitan and local titles.
The landmark three-year agreement also includes the development of a subscription platform, the sharing of ad revenue via Googles ad technology services, the cultivation of audio journalism and meaningful investments in innovative video journalism by YouTube.

(33,580 posts)but it won't matter. The Conservative dominance in social media will continue.
What this means is Google openly saying it is not neutral when it comes to what News it provides.

(720 posts)And this does not appear to be an exclusive deal.
This is a global initiative for Google. For example, they have a deal with Der Spiegel in Germany.
I assume that The New York Times could be a part of this project if the company's management agreed to Google's terms.
So while I still see it as a betrayal, and it's yet another reason why I'm considering switching from Google's app ecosystem, it's not as bad as I thought.
It's definitely way more of a big deal for News Corp than it is for Google.
Treating Fox News and the New York Post as "journalism" is a joke and these sources should be labeled as opinion or news analysis. Google is doing all of its readers a disservice by treating this crap as straightforward news. It's also spreading RW propaganda, which is definitely doing evil in my book.

Hell, even Duck Duck Go will show right wing sites that pay to be there at the top of searches .
Fact of life: One has to learn to use critical thinking skills in order to evaluate content found on the public internets.
Now if only US schools hadn't stop teaching those skills 40 years ago...
