Unprecedented winter storms have blanketed Texas, causing bitter cold temperatures and widespread power outages throughout much of the state.
President Joe Biden has declared a state of emergency, which makes people eligible for federal assistance. Still, the need for help is immediate as many struggle to find shelter, food, and warmth in these dangerous freezing conditions. Here is how you can help.
The Salvation Army provides shelter, food, and other necessary items to those in need throughout Texas.
The American Red Cross is supporting at least 35 warming centers with cots and blankets across the state.

While I despise many of the Texas politicians there are real people caught in this mess through no fault of their own.

(25,471 posts)The incessant blue state/red state nonsense gets a little tiresome.
On topic, many cities have opened warming shelters. There's a statewide resource helpline for assistance:
"Texans can find more details about community resources and warming centers in their area by calling 877-541-7905 or 211, the states free 24-hour helpline."

(10,279 posts)toward getting assistance for Texas, I suggest that the Republican leadership resign so that Pres.Biden can place the state into the hands a crisis manager from the U.S. Corp of Engineers.
The hacks who are responsible need to exit promptly. Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, and all Republicans in the U.S. and Texas Congresses. For the good of Texas, they needs to make way now.
