(5,528 posts)I was on search and rescue for 9/11. We were staying in the Javits Center in between grueling 12 hour shifts. I came back from the site one day and noticed the floor was overly crowded for some reason. I just wanted to find my bunk so I wound my way through the crowd and found myself face-to-face with Al Franken. I rushed up to meet him and did some real fan-boy stuff. I specifically told him how I loved that book. Especially the part where he made up a forward by Jeane Kirkpatric (although I couldn't remember her name at the time) In truth I think I sounded like an idiot because I was so exhausted.
When I turned away from him, I realized that there were all kinds of celebrities there. It was some kind of USO style visit to support the rescuers. I saw Chevy Chase, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgewick, Sam Waterston and others. They were all being mobbed and I had found Al just sort of loitering off to the side. He probably appreciated being recognized since this was his pre-Senator time.
He was really kind to me and I have always admired him. To this day, my favorite celebrity meeting ever. Although I met Olivia Newton John a few days later and that came close.

(3,974 posts)Harris is the VP and the next in line to run for President. The poster is touting someone else instead of Harris. Why?

Look at a timeline of Al's demise, and it should occur to you that what the poster was saying has nothing to do with our amazing Vice-President.
Unless, of course, you are bound and determined to be offended.
