General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThis might not be a popular take, but I don't celebrate Limbaugh's death.
Yes, he was a shitty human being.
Yes, he bears responsibility for much that is wrong with today's body politic.
Yes, he got rich by smearing others, and lying for a living.
But I just can't do it.
I think his absence may well lead to a marked improvement in the level of our political discourse.
If he is buried with his undeserved Presidential Medal of Freedom, he should be exhumed, and the medal retrieved.
In short, I despise him and all that he stood for, and would piss on his grave, but ONLY as a mark of my disgust with how he lived his life.
But I've survived (so far) three different types of cancer. Thankfully, I don't know yet, but I hear it's a lousy way to go.
Perhaps it's a personal failing on my part that leads me to not be joyful based what what basically amounts to my own experience.
But I'm also confident that I would not be celebrating had he perished in a plane crash wherein he was the pilot and only passenger.
So in short, I will not miss him, and I do not mourn his absence from the planet, let alone the airwaves..
But something within just won't allow me to be gleeful about his death.

Isn't it odd that one of our worst Presidents remains deified by Republicans?

(31,028 posts)I had breast cancer last year with chemo. And I tend to hate suffering of any kind even, when totally justified. Some of the jokes are pretty good though, I have to admit. Nobodys joking about cancer, just this particular destructive moron.

(8,445 posts)I'm not going to dispute that cancer is horrible. Both of my parents and also other family members have died from it.
I do know that the difference in care that someone with money gets compared to someone without adequate money is night and day. I'm sure that racist asshole got the best care possible.
I guess I can't say that I'm exactly "gleeful", but I am at least relieved that he's no longer able to spew his hatred and lies.

He was one we could always discard without regret.

I tried to make that clear, but clearly I should have tried harder.
(Or possibly, that wouldn't have made a damned bit of difference.)

I share your position, 11 Bravo.
