Members with the Texas National Guard are now stationed across the state to help those in need as the winter storm continues to bring frigid temperatures amid severe power outages.

With temperatures reaching dangerously cold conditions and continued power outages, the state of Texas is sending additional resources, as well as National Guard troops, to local officials to help with response.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced Monday afternoon the state will be sending resources to help clear snow and ice-covered roads and assistance to essential workers like health care and power grid workers.

The governor also said Texas National Guard troops will be deployed across the state to help conduct welfare checks and help move residents, like the elderly, to local warming centers.

What can they do at this point? It's not a natural disaster: flood or snow or fire situation. It's a man made "no-power" situation. Perhaps they can bring in generators, but how do you decide who needs the power worst? Setting up hot food stations might really help.

Not in the rest of the state that I've heard - which is odd because there is more snow to the south. Then again, the Governor is from NW Arkansas.
