I was an insurance agent at the time. There wasn't a big surge in claims.

(11,683 posts)You may want to turn off the main valve to your city water, or water well, where it enters the home if your pipes are indeed frozen. Otherwise, let some faucets drip if you are sure it is not frozen. Also, you may want to open any outside water valves/spigots after turning off the main. This may drain water out of the lines and keep more water pouring in if the pipes are broken from a freeze up.

We lost our water when the outdoor garden spigot froze.
Didn't lose power or gas though.

(34,661 posts)because of a Mechanical issue. Left Mpls at 5 am,-28 degrees,on our way to the Caribbean. Packed our Winter Gear we wore to the Airport in a airport Locker. Atlanta Airport Terminals were having all kinds of issues with their Heating and as luck would have, our replacement plane was Parked away from the Terminal and we had to use a outside Stairway. Talk about a mother Friggin experience,Tee shirts Shorts and flip flops.
Welcome to Atlanta. I guess it keeps the rift raft away.
