(6,833 posts)That reversion was sponsored by our "for profit" media.
And not only in Texas, obviously, but in every corner of the country where education is relegated to job training. The purpose of the job being, ultimately, the perpetuation of unbridled consumerism, the sponsor of our 24/7 "for profit" media.
Firstly, people totally engrossed in activities which deny their humanity are unlikely to realize they're sleeping. Secondly, those same people do not look objectively at their lives for fear they'll be forced to see how close they actually are to personal collapse, both psychological and financial.
Not sure how to remedy the situation but I am certain that democracy is the only peaceful means to foment repair. When we give up and fall in for violence among ourselves, democracy becomes something less than it's promise. It becomes powerless.

(25,941 posts)The horses ass. When did altruism and empathy become unfashionable? Is our society really sofa king sick that selfish pricks like Ted F. Cruz are voluntarily chosen to set public policy?

(10,011 posts)you have no brain cells left. All you have is a fantasyland of hate for minorities, immigrants, women, LGBTQ, poor people of any colorand most of all liberals. I guess those Texas voters who voted for Abbott and his crew of crazies sure showed us how things should be done. I wonder how many of them are now lined up with a hand out begging for help from those liberals they hate.

(35,685 posts)We teachers call that "experiential learning." It's the way adults learn best.
Cruz and Abbott have abandoned them and lied to them.
Beto and AOC have brought real aid--like a million bucks.

(1,910 posts)Over and over again they vote against their own best interests and those of their kids and grand kids.
Their republican leaders make them feel superior to minorities and then blame minorities for their problems, that beats voting for their best interests every time.

(9,895 posts)At least Texans can still have their guns...even if the paramedics and coroners actually are prying them from cold dead hands now...
Hope it was worth it.
To those people fighting to save Texas from itself and to bring rational governance back, you are truly heroic.

(42,862 posts)... I wish more elected officials and former elected officials were like him. I'm so sick of the #MeMeMe people who seek praise and public recognition, rather than doing the work and helping people and causes for their own sake, and for unselfish reasons.
Those are the people that I respect the most... those are the individuals who deserve our praise and gratitude.
(I just wish he'd stop using foul language when he's being interviewed.)
