The weather event really was unprecedented. Record cold for a record length of time (many areas broke 100-year-old records), 30-year snow events, after two days of freezing rain. All combined into a massive clusterfuck.

It was bound to cause problems, like any historic weather event, but the issues would have been minimized absent the years of mismanagement and ERCOT's inability to plan and adapt, combined with deregulation and lack of oversight.
