The GOP is rapidly becoming the blue-collar party. Here's what that means for future.

Most of the GOP's blue-collar growth took place during the presidency of Donald Trump.

WASHINGTON — The exit of Donald Trump has brought a more normal rhythm to back to politics in Washington, but outside the Beltway deeper forces are reshaping partisan landscape.

Data from the NBC News poll shows that the voters that comprise the two major parties are changing and one massive shift is coming in employment: the kinds of jobs Democrats and Republicans work. There are signs that across racial and ethnic demographic groups that Republicans are becoming the party of blue-collar Americans and the change is happening quickly.

If the movement continues it could have a very large impact on the future of the GOP. Consider the scale of the change overall.

In the last decade, the percentage of blue-collar voters who call themselves Republicans has grown by 12 points. At the same time, the number in that group identifying as Democrats has decline by 8 points. Among white-collar voters, the numbers have remained stable, with Democrats seeing a tiny increase and Republicans seeing a tiny drop.

I think we've grown complacent to the fact that the Republican demographic is getting old and dying off, all we have to do is wait them out while we passively depend on our long term allies... blacks, workers, and Hispanics. Florida in 2020 showed us that Hispanics are not a bloc, and they can be persuaded to go to the dark side.
I'm remembering Nixon's southern strategy, where all of the good democrats were convinced that the Republicans were a better fit. at the time. who'd of thunk it??? but nonetheless here we are.
I hope that this is not a harbinger of things to come, and we dems continue to reach out and bring others into the party...

Florida is an exception but in places like Arizona and New Mexico, Biden got 70% of the Hispanic vote. Probably the same, if not more, in California.

They are experts at stoking white grievance to get white working class people to vote against their own interests.

white blue collar workers. And that white racism is directly connected to Trump. Right wing media always encouraged white separatism, but Trump accelerated the shift.

A lot has been written about the US becoming a third world nation or a failed state. But there's still a lot of fluidity to that trend. One of the prime indicators that the US has an ability to correct itself is the potency of the justice system to re-assert itself as a regulator of legal and moral conduct. And THAT will become evident as the justice system deems as unacceptable the behavior of insurrectionists, from the prosecutions of Capitol rioters all the way up to the conduct of Trump. Enforcing the law MEANS that Trump's attempt to overthrow the government is dealt a mortal blow. And it's the justice system that must deal that blow. Public sentiment will follow.

Overall, repub membership has been shrinking for many years. So is the 12% "increase" due to more workers signing up, or is it because more people of other demographics are leaving the party? I don't for a minute believe that the repub party has expanded by 12% overall.

The demographic profile of the GOP is really being distorted by the data. The really need to dig a little deeper into the data. But I guess that would ruin the “story”

won by 7 million votes. The difference has doubled doesn't seem like such rapid growth to me. Isn't
middle income blue collar America also shrinking when we lose good paying Union manufacturing jobs.

We all know there are a lot fewer of those around today.

How do they classify service jobs? Restaurant, retail, first responders, etc? Lots more of those today.
