(46,340 posts)Every year I read about postal trucks hitting people, that large windshield looks good for preventing it.
Also the engines in cities will be mostly electric.

(2,533 posts)The roofline is tall for a reason-storage space. Extending the window all the way up is overly complex, expensive & increases likelihood of damage. Flat glass center bar support * done. And I think we don't need a overpriced contractor we need economy & durability-with ease of maintenance. Also protect the driver from direct sun at least.

(7,510 posts)After years of delays and deliberations, the U.S. Postal Service awarded a 10-year contract to Oshkosh Defense to produce the next mail truck.
The Postal Service said the program would launch the most dramatic modernization of the USPS fleet in three decades.
Under the terms of the deal, Oshkosh, Wisc.,-based Oshkosh will get a $482 million contract to complete the production design of what the Postal Service is calling the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle. The agreement also provides Oshkosh funds to pay for tooling and factory configuration needed before launching production.
It will be a purpose-built, right-hand-drive vehicle for mail and package delivery. The design will allow the vehicle to be equipped with either an internal combustion engine or a battery-electric powertrain. The Postal Service has told Oshkosh to ensure that the electric truck can be retrofitted to keep pace with electric vehicle technology advances.

More room for more package delivery.
List of suppliers not released, but they had earlier worked with Ford on using the Transit Connect platform.

(166 posts)Gee, thanx for the article K ! I guess I'm not the only one who wonders where Ford F*d up here and lost or gave the bid up to Wisconsin. With Wisconsin s shitty politicians (i.e. Ron Johnson) they do not deserve this. De NoJOy must have his nose in here somewhere...

(96 posts)their proto units here in Vegas. The Carriers that had a chance to run the Proto loved it.
Just checked the Board of Directors list, sure looks like Wall Streeter's Sweet Heart bunch. Not surprised this Contract dropped to a Gaser Company. Notice the Truck body is just a reworked Curb Side delivery van built in Indiana by Utility Corp which is another UTC company.
Icahn had a massive state in UTC as well as Oshkosh a few months back.
