(11,742 posts)They ONLY worry about why the debt is incurred. If we incur debt because we have just given the wealthy a trillion in tax cuts, that is fine. If we incur debt because we just bought 2 aircraft carriers we don't need, or tanks that the Army doesn't want, or a new fighter that the Airforce didn't order, those are fine.
If we incur debt to lift people out of poverty or provide life saving health care or economic relief to non-wealthy people, well then that is not something we should be going into debt for.
Republicans are liars. They use those general terms because we all have an understanding of what debt is, and we obviously know the too much personal debt is bad, so national debt must be bad. They don't care how big government is, they only care that government should NEVER be used to equalize any playing field or upend the status quo. They don't care about family values, they just want to keep women and people of color subservient to the values and behaviors that they find acceptable.
