Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene rode into Congress on a message of “people over politicians” and fueled her bid with small-dollar donations from around the country.

Once in Washington, Greene quickly spent her donors’ money to gain access to the halls of power, an Atlanta Journal-Constitution analysis of her spending found.

In her year-end campaign filing, Greene reported spending campaign donations on a $717.60 dinner at BLT Prime, a pricey steakhouse inside the Trump International Hotel; another $653.15 to dine at the Beltway hangout Capital Grille; a $4,000 sponsorship payment to a conservative institute; and $825 to join the Capitol Hill Club, a Republican-only social club where lobbyists, staffers and elite donors come to rub elbows with members of Congress.

“White, Woman, Wife, Mother, Christian, Conservative, Business Owner,” Greene wrote in one recent Telegram post. “These are the reasons they don’t want me on Ed & Labor. It’s my identity & my values.”

We think it is expensive when we get steaks from Outback delivered because of the pandemic and it costs 45 bucks.

It's a very pricey place where a shrimp cocktail costs $24, a porterhouse steak goes for $110, a Dover sole goes for $61, French fries or mashed potatoes cost $12 and desserts cost $10. Here's their dinner menu:

So, just for fun, let's say each diner's meal of drinks, an appetizer, entree and dessert costs $150 and your party has five or six people. That's how the bill, including tax and tip, can be so high.

In no way whatsoever am I defending Greene's spending other than she seems to be living the high life on other people's money-- just like Trump. Simply, I know how fast a restaurant tab can explode.

Many years ago, I got stuck paying the bill at a high-end restaurant in NYC's Little Italy. There were ten or twelve of us and the drinks and food were consumed at a furious pace. The bill (in the mid-1980s) was $3750 and it ensured that my American Express card had a higher rating. I'm confident our waiters went home very happy that night!
