2/ First, some background on Ethan Nordean from the Gov. He's a Seattle-based #ProudBoys leader and has held local & national leadership posts.
We know this in part because of a face-palmingly bad redaction job of their own bylaws.

3/ Gov outlines how Nordean used social media to recruit, connect to other militia groups & solicit donations, including of of tactical gear.

4/ After #ProudBoys' leader Enrique Tarrio was arrested, Nordean was among the leaders taking charge.
Planning that ensured included distributing radios, agreeing on frequencies establishing a rally point, and making sure that the group was incognito.
5/ Much of the the #ProudBoys capitol siege is documented in the excellent @WSJ visual investigation👇
The Gov makes Nordean's role as leading some of these assaults clearer. But whats really interesting.

6/... is the use of non-#ProudBoys like bat-wielding Robert Gieswein (pictured with PB Dominic '#Spazzo Pezzola) to further the mayhem.
And to break the large group into different incognito assault teams, focused on different doors, to make it harder to identify & stop them.

(1,546 posts)Charlottesville riot; Jan 6 attack on the US Capitol.
If you don't live in or within a couple of hours drive of the scene of the riot, you need $$$$$:
-- air fare, or, gas money
-- if you drive and spend the night on the road -- motel, food, gas
-- when you arrive in Charlottesville or DC you need food, motel, metro fare, parking fees
-- double the cost to get back home
-- and a lot of these clowns came from far away, so, they need: air fare, parking at the airport, rental car/taxi/Uber.
Not to mention the uniform:
-- AR-15 IS $1,000
--Handgun is $600
-- then you need camo uniform, kevlar vest, radio, knife, boots, patches to sew on the uniform -- $1,000
Sweeet Thing and I are retired with nice pensions, mine from the Army, hers from VA state retirement system; some investments and savings; nice inheritance from my parents -- and damn if I'm spending that kind of cash on the toys required and the travel, lodging, etc.
I guess their wives are working overtime.
Meanwhile, when I see a middle-aged guy with a good job that provides health care and pension, wife and two kids, nice home mostly paid for, driving a $40,000 pickup, outfitted with $5,000 in toys, protesting government oppression, I say to myself: "Yep, for sure -- there goes an oppressed, burdened serf longing for freedom!"

(1,896 posts)Good to see progress in revealing the extent and capabilities of the insurrectionists on both coordination and communication. As many here have known this was not a group of locals jumping on an opportunity to spread a message, this was a tight operation requiring top down management, experienced operators, budgets on a national and local levels, and secrecy.
Let the details continue to roll in.
