Sens. Ossoff and Warnock credit Georgia voters for passage of $1.9 trillion relief package

Live politics updates: Sens. Ossoff and Warnock credit Georgia voters for passage of $1.9 trillion relief package

Sarah Elbeshbishi
USA TODAY

Georgia Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock – two Democrats elected in Jan. 5 runoffs in what was once considered a Republican stronghold – held a press conference hours after the Senate narrowly approved a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package in a 50-49 vote that fell along party lines.

Both senators made it clear that the package would likely have never come to pass without their upset victories.

"This is the most significant economic relief package for working- and middle-class families in American history," Ossoff told reporters after the vote. "We will crush COVID-19, recover economically, safely re-open our schools, and get our daily lives back – and we’ll do it thanks to Georgia voters.”

Warnock agreed.

"There is no question that the people of Georgia deserve a great deal of credit for what happened here today," he said. "We simply would not be here had they not stood up in such a profound way in this historic election."

To be placed all over Georgia - with perhaps a special 'thank you' in the 14th Congressional district.

Maybe get some of our more creative/artistic members to compete on the designs.

Georgia voters knew there was no way they get this money by electing more Republicans.

So much is going to happen because we have the Senate. Mitch would have held up every nominee and not done a darned thing to help people.

nothing like a major success for a first-termer to run on for re-election. They ran on the stim bill, mostly, and they were key elements in getting the ball across the goal line. Both seem to be pretty good Dem legislators. Hopefully we can hold that seat and focus on flipping a couple of other seats around the country.

You were right. Jon was elected to a full term, and it's Warnock who has to run again in 2 years.

Never post at haste when you are personally involved!

legislatures. They're trying a NC-style voter suppression effort in the wake of the two two dem senator wins. We have to hope the courts stop them and the turnout is huge for Warnock in '22.
