So the Dems in the House passed it after the President proposed it. They arent to blame.
In the 50-50 Senate, 96% of Democrats would vote for it. 0% of Republicans will. So if the Dems could go from 96% to 100% it might have a shot. Or if maybe the Republicans can go from 0% to 4%!!!!
The Republicans are why we dont have a $15 minimum wage right now, period! Stop blaming the Democratic Party for only being 96% there, blame the GOP for being 0% there!

(4,111 posts)but so are Manchin and Sinema. Come on now, we have to be upfront about that.

(58,785 posts)in red states and calling that progressive are like trumpists calling themselves defenders of democracy. Both are dreadfully sincere.
They support a $15 minimum wage. They just werent willing to go against the parliamentarian and break the rules to get it as part of this package.
We need to be accurate.
And Sinema and Manchin are willing to go to $11 or $12 on the minimum wage, most Republicans dont want it raised at all.

(58,785 posts)Noting that AZ increased its MW from $11 to $12 in 2020, and some AZ cities have increased theirs higher than that. They're not exactly backwards in this respect, and Sinema was in the AZ house for the previous MW increase.

(4,111 posts)in cities with a high cost of living. Making excuses for Manchin and Sinema doesn't get us anywhere. We have to be honest. If they would have agreed to $15/hr, the bill would have passed. They didn't and so the increase was shelved.

(19,107 posts)Sinema and Manchin are allies, they support raising the MW, just not all the way to $15.
The blame lies with the GOP, we need to start saying that.

(13,056 posts)great POTUS. He & Dems will get it done. I don't doubt it.
We also need to be cognizant of the fact having intraparty dissent is a price we have to pay as a Big Tent party. There will always be the Kyrsten Sinemas and Joe Manchins of the party. Compromise and concessions from within to get things done is & will be the only way we get things done given we can't count on the GOP to do the right thing, as their M.O. is first & foremost to be obstructionists. They are not pro-middle class and the poor, only pro-wealthy.

(11,061 posts)That's been her position since the beginning. Support raising minimum wage, but not through the stimulus bill. Which makes me wonder what Bernie's theatrics were about, since the bill was never going to pass (much less make it into the final bill because of reconciliation rules), and he just put a bunch of Democrats on blast as a result.
Johnny2X2X
(19,107 posts)She went to $12 in AZ when she was in the House there. So she wasnt willing to go to $15.
I see so man people blaming Dems, but its important to be accurate. Dems support $15, and the couple who dont support $11 or $12.
Almost no Reps support any raise to the MW.
Republicans deserve 98% of the blame.
